Thal
8.5in x 8.5in
This is a print of a warm, culturally rich painting offers a window into rural Punjabi life in the Thal desert region of Pakistan. Set against the soft, fading glow of a hot pink sunset, a traditional adobe (mud) home sits quietly at the heart of the composition.. Netted windows, a charpai resting under the wall's shade, and a metal ghara for churning lassi speak to the simple, resourceful rhythm of village life. A nalka (hand pump) stands just outside, alongside a neatly stacked mound of cow manure used to reinforce and refresh the earthen walls—a common yet often overlooked aspect of domestic upkeep.
Rendered in oil on a small wood canvas panel, this piece reflects my view in the summers driving up to my grandparents home, where life, though rugged, felt grounded and unfiltered. It honors a way of living that is at once enduring and deeply human—slow, sweet, and in tune with the land.
