This piece is inspired by my grandmother, like many women of her generation—who lived a life shaped by resilience, sacrifice, and deep faith. She raised eight children in a village without electricity, where long days of farm work left little time for herself. Draped in a black shawl, symbolic of her midlife years and the many roles she bore and silently enduranced.
At the end of each day, her only wish was simple: that there would be enough oil left in her lamp to read her Quran once everyone was asleep. That quiet moment, lit by the soft glow of her lamp, was her only time for herself.
This painting is a tribute to women like her—who asked for little, gave everything, and found peace in the simplest blessings. It’s a painting about faith, perseverance, and honoring the everyday grace of those who came before us.
